We’re Hiring: Associate Veterinarian (Full-Time)
Lead our medical department, spay/neuter clinic, and community wellness services
Tupelo-Lee Humane Society (TLHS) is seeking a licensed Veterinarian to oversee shelter medicine, high-quality high-volume spay/neuter, and low-cost wellness services for the public.
This is a leadership role—supporting disease control protocols, staff training, medical decision-making, and compassionate care for animals in the shelter and in foster.

The TLHS Associate Veterinarian is responsible for the medical department and the spay and neuter clinic. This role manages shelter medical efforts, spay/neuter surgical procedures (with occasional other procedures), wellness services, and disease control protocols. The Associate Veterinarian is a key member of the shelter staff and the face of the medical department in the community.
Essential Duties – Shelter Medicine
- Medical examinations, care, monitoring, and overall health of animals under TLHS care (including foster animals).
- Performs or supervises monitoring of all shelter animals, including those in isolation or quarantine.
- High-quality, high-volume spay/neuter and other surgical procedures; wellness services to the public.
- Wellness services through organized clinics in-shelter and in the community throughout the year.
- Develops, manages, and trains staff in preventative shelter medicine protocols.
- Performs humane euthanasia in accordance with TLHS policy and protocols.
- Maintains accurate medical records and medication control, including DEA-regulated substances.
Medical Department Management
- Supervises clinic staff and collaborates with shelter leadership.
- Assists the Executive Director in hiring clinic administration and veterinary staff.
- Adheres to veterinary services budget and participates in planning sessions.
- Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
- Currently licensed in the State of Mississippi or eligible for licensure.
- Eligible to obtain a DEA license.
- Shelter medicine and high-volume surgery experience preferred.
