Found Animals — Current Stray Holds at TLHS

Help Us Bring Them Home

About This Page

Every pet listed below has recently entered the custody of Tupelo-Lee Humane Society (TLHS) and is currently serving a five-day stray hold. During this period, pets are held to give their owners time to reclaim them.

Once a pet’s hold period ends, they may become eligible for adoption, rescue transfer, or foster placement depending on their situation.

If you believe one of these pets belongs to you, please contact us during our regular business hours using the buttons below, or reach out using the contact information provided at the bottom of this page.

For after-hours inquiries, you may email us, and a member of our team will get back to you as soon as possible.

What Is a Stray Hold?

Mississippi law requires shelters to hold stray animals for at least five (5) days to give owners time to find them. During this time, animals receive food, care, and basic medical attention.

After the stray hold expires, ownership legally transfers to TLHS and the pet may then be evaluated for adoption or rescue placement.

How To Reclaim Your Pet

  • Contact us during our regular business hours using the buttons below, or reach out using the contact information provided at the bottom of this page.

  • Provide proof of ownership – photos, vet records, or microchip registration

  • Provide proof of current rabies vaccination (if available)

  • Be prepared to pay reclaim fees covering daily care, vaccinations, and boarding

If you recognize one of these pets as your own, please contact us immediately so we can help reunite you. Otherwise, before reaching out about adopting or fostering, please read the important information below.

Please Note:

Pets shown here are not available for adoption or fostering. They are displayed solely to help potential owners identify and reclaim their lost pets during the legally required stray hold period.

All stray-intake animals are held for a minimum of five (5) days. After the hold, a pet must be spayed or neutered before becoming adoption-eligible. Veterinary scheduling and shelter capacity may extend this timeline.

Because of these requirements, we kindly ask that the public not call or request to adopt or foster pets currently on stray hold. This allows our team to focus on the many pets who are already fully vetted and ready for homes right now.

Once reclaimed by their owner, they will be promptly removed from this page. After the 5-day hold period, unclaimed pets may become available for adoption or rescue placement.

For questions, please call TLHS during regular business hours:
Tuesday – Friday: 11:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Saturday: 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Thank you for helping us prioritize lifesaving outcomes for every animal in our care.
