Tupelo-Lee Humane Society is in search of dependable, self-motivated, and compassionate individuals with integrity to join our team as Animal Care Technicians. This is a physically demanding but deeply rewarding role that provides hands-on experience working directly with animals.
As an Animal Care Technician, you are not just meeting the daily needs of the animals—you are helping shape their futures. Through your care, training, and love, you help prepare them for successful adoptions and give them a better chance at finding their forever homes.
This Position Is for Individuals Who Are
- Comfortable handling animals, including canines and felines of all sizes.
- Energetic, attentive to detail, consistent, and dedicated.
- Task-oriented, self-accountable, and able to follow directions.
- Punctual and reliable, present on scheduled days and times.
- Confident handling fractious and/or distressed animals.
- Comfortable working in a loud, fast-paced environment.
- Team-spirited, professional, and customer-service friendly.
Work Includes
- Hands-on care of canines and felines.
- Enforcing daily kennel routines.
- Feeding and watering animals according to a set schedule.
- Providing daily enrichment to promote mental and emotional well-being.
- Observing animal behaviors and health, reporting any concerns.
- Cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting kennels, equipment, and work areas.
- Assisting with grooming and bathing.
- Interacting with adopters and assisting with adoption meet & greets.
- Monitoring pets’ conditions and communicating with veterinary staff.
- Keeping accurate records of feeding, health, and behavior.
- Using shelter software and basic computer programs to log records.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance.
- Ability to walk, stand, crouch, and bend for extended periods (up to 6 hours at a time) on concrete floors.
- Willing to work in an environment that is sometimes loud, messy, and physically challenging.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and genuine compassion for animals.
