What Working at TLHS Is Like
Tupelo-Lee Humane Society operates in a high-volume, fast-paced shelter environment where no two days look the same. Our team works together across departments to ensure animals and the people who care about them are supported with professionalism, compassion, and consistency.
A Dynamic Shelter Setting
Working at TLHS means being adaptable and ready to pivot as needs change throughout the day. Priorities shift quickly, and teamwork is essential. While each position has its own responsibilities, collaboration across roles is part of our culture.
Customer and Community Interaction
Many positions involve working directly with the public, including adopters, fosters, volunteers, partner organizations, and community members. This requires:
Clear and compassionate communication
Professionalism during emotionally charged situations
Educating the public on animal welfare, policies, and procedures
Assisting with matching animals to appropriate adoptive homes
Team-Based Support
Even in roles that are not primarily animal-care focused, team members may occasionally assist with:
Supporting animal care staff during high-volume periods
Helping maintain clean, safe, and sanitary environments
Assisting with animal movement, enrichment, or care when needed
Contributing to positive and informed adoption experiences
At TLHS, every role supports the mission and contributes to the overall care and wellbeing of the animals.
